How to Use the JSP® Gold Test Kit

Step 1: Scratch or rub the gold item onto the included test stone.
Step 2: Apply a drop of the closest karat testing acid (10K, 14K, or 18K) to the scratch.
Step 3: Observe the reaction:

• If the acid dissolves the metal quickly, the gold is of a lower karat than the acid.
• If the acid slowly dissolves the metal, the gold is close to the acid’s karat.
• If the metal remains unchanged, it is at least the karat of the testing acid.

🔹 Enhanced Accuracy with Test Needles – Compare the reaction of your test sample with a known karat gold sample for more precise results.

Platinum & Silver Testing (Acids Sold Separately)

• Platinum: Should remain unchanged under platinum testing acid. Some lower-grade platinum (800 purity) may dissolve slightly.
• Silver: Rub extra metal onto the test stone, apply silver testing acid, and check the reaction:
• .999 fine silver → Bright red
• .925 sterling silver → Dark red
• .800 silver → Brown
